Jason and Mickey return to talk retro wrestling (or as Mickey calls it, rasslin!) With Wrestlemania coming up this weekend, we'll be going back to the '80s to relive the glory days of wrestling. We've also found several Recurrent Events headlines to pass along including:

  • The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee trailer
  • Dragon's Lair movie adaption with Ryan Reynolds
  • Destro added to G.I. Joe Classified
  • Bacon Studded Buns at Burger King in Germany

In this week's TRN Time Machine segment sponsored by the RetroDaze, Jason and Mickey dropkick their way back to the '80s to reveal their Top 5 favorite wrestlers. First, we lead off the conversation with how we initially were introduced to pro wrestling and what shows we watched. Then we drop an elbow on the competition with our picks and the reasons why we chose them. Plus, several of our listeners chimed in on Twitter with their favorite '80s wrestlers so we'll read back those tweets to end the Time Machine.

TRN Game Night - Situation Jukebox 006

March 26, 2020

TRN Game Night returns with episode 6 of Situation Jukebox, the improvisational music game that chooses songs in response to specific situations. Members of The Retro Network will be facing off and see if champion Eric can defend his gold record belt!

Playing along in this podcast will be returning champion Eric (@Eric_Vardeman), Mickey (@yesterdayville), 2-time champion Stacey (@geeky_vixen), Tim (@oldschool80s) and Jason (@RD80s) who will also serve as host. Using cards from the Boombox game by Buffalo Games, each round will consist of a different situation in which all contestants will try to come up with the perfect song. After each choice is given, players vote for their favorite and the winner receives a point. Once a player reaches 3 points, they win the game! Our twist is, song choices all have to be at least 20 years old and cannot be used again once chosen. If there is a tie, players do another round of voting.

We also do two bonus rounds at the end of the show for fun which each player is assigned an artist to use only their music catalog for a situation! You can also listen to all the song choices in the Situation Jukebox 006 Spotify playlist.

SequelQuest Rewind | A Sequel to The RAD | EP78

March 13, 2020
SequelQuest Rewind | A Sequel to The RAD | EP78
 (From June 2018)

How RAD are you? In 1986 Hal Needham, the director of Smokey and The Bandit was tasked by Talia Shire from the Rocky films to direct a “sportsploitation” film in the style of The Karate Kid, but with BMX racing. Who knew that by including scenes of Bike Dancing, Ass Sliding and the wicked BMX danger of Helltrack he would create an 80’s cult classic like RAD?

More than 30 years later, this wild 80’s movie starring Bill Allen and Lori Loughlin is still not commercially available, but that won’t stop Adam and a duo of guest hosts from the Cult Film Club podcast from pitching their epic sequel ideas for RAD 2 in this podcast adventure.

Paxton Holley from the NerdLunch podcast and I Read Movies delivers not 1, but 2 RAD sequels in order to create a trilogy that completes the journey of earnest BMX biker, Cru Jones. While RAD mega-fan, Shawn Robare from Branded In The 80’s imagines an Infinity War style crossover film featuring characters featured in Thrashin’, North Shore, Gleaming The Cube and Airborne coming together to get EXTREME! Meanwhile Adam combines the disciplines of BMX and Kung Fu for an unforgettable RAD 2 scenario that kicks the fun into high gear.

Listen now and get ready to walk this sucker!
