SequelQuest Rewind | A Sequel to the Original Jurassic Park Trilogy | EP82

In the 25 years since Jurassic Park roared into movie theaters, the Steven Spielberg movie franchise has managed to avoid extinction, even with the critically panned The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3 films failing to live up to the legacy of the original. The franchise was recently re-imagined with the Jurassic World series of films, but what if they had gotten the band back together for a Jurassic Park 4?

That’s what Jeramy and Adam set out to discover when they invited their own team of experts to return to Isla Nublar for this podcast and create an exciting new Jurassic Park sequelo the original trilogy. Fan favorite Judy returns to the show as she has for all of our Spielberg podcasts and also along for the tour is Forrest, most recently on our Spy Special episode.

The excitement comes hard and heavy as we explore the possibility of a spin-off featuring Dr. Henry Wu, a family film about a boy and his dinosaur set on a farm as well as a discovery of an abandoned experiment on the island that marks the shocking return of Samuel L Jackson’s Ray Arnold to the universe.

Our Jurassic Park conversation is fun-filled as we learn which host hadn’t watched any Jurassic Park film until this month and how the Raptor fighting gymnastics scene proves that representation matters to one of our guests. Our Jurassic Park 4 episode is jam-packed with dino-sized fun, so listen now!

This week's episode is an introduction to a brand new show for The Retro Network Podcast Channel. Featured this week is our beta episode for TRN Drive-In, a movie review podcast hosted by Mickey and Jason.

But before we park the car and screen the movie, you'll hear our initial segment of the regular TRN Podcast and a few announcements to pass along for Thanksgiving week. We will forego our normal Recurrent Events and Time Machine segments this week to introduce the new show, but if you don't want to miss all the retro pop culture headlines we normally pass along, be sure to check out Recurrent Events on the TRN website.

The first movie we will be screening at TRN Drive-In is the Thanksgiving classic Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Starring Steve Martin as Neal Page, John Candy as Del Griffith, and written and directed by the late great John Hughes, this 1987 film is a seasonal must-watch for many movie lovers. Mickey takes the lead for the review by supplying the facts, what-ifs, some unique award nominations, and just an all-around good time as we discuss the movie in detail. Favorite scenes, supporting actors, quotes, and even a push to #ReleaseTheHughesCut are featured during the podcast.

We asked out listeners to provide feedback on the movie and we'll be reading back your takes as we wrap the review. We'll also reveal the next movie that will be featured on TRN Drive-In next month. Also leave us feedback on the format of the show and tell us if we missed anything. Find us on social media @TRNsocial on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. You can also connect directly with hosts Jason (@RD80s) and Mickey (@yesterdayville) on Twitter.

If you enjoy the TRN Podcast and others in the channel like Sequelquest and TRN Game Night, please leave a 5-star rating in your favorite app. Support us on Patreon for free bonus content including our outtakes shows plus some behind the scenes content exclusively for our paid supporters. Consider backing us this week starting at just $2!

SequelQuest Rewind | Mighty Ducks Franchise Sequel | EP51

The Mighty Ducks franchise of films were a 90's sensation that took the rag tag team of pee-wee hockey players from center ice to center stage in movie goers minds. Coached by Emilio Estevez and captained by Joshua Jackson, The Mighty Ducks trilogy gave us laughs and heartfelt moments for most of the decade, but then faded into the Disney ether.

Jeff, Adam and Jeramy weren't sure if they had what it takes to help the Mighty Ducks lace up the skates one more time and "Quack" their way to victory. That's why they invited real pee-wee hockey coach and SequelQuest fan, Eric to join them on this episode to get them into shape.

So listen now as this squad of podcasters discuss their favorite characters from the films, growing up in the home of the real Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, our picks for the best sports films of all time as well as what Charlie Conway and Gordon Bombay would be up to today.

This is one of our most hilarious episodes, so get ready to fly across the audio ice taking a triple deke into a knuckle puck of podcast fun now!

SequelQuest Rewind | Last Action Hero Sequel | EP84

Missing this episode of SequelQuest would be a “Big Mistake” because we’re picking up the pieces of the failed Arnold Schwarzenegger film Last Action Hero from 1993. It’s the tale of a young boy named Danny Madigan who is transported into the world of his favorite action hero for a fantasy adventure movie experience that very few people bought a ticket for.

This satire of 80s action films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Austin O’Brien, Charles Dance and many familiar Hollywood faces is 25 years old this year along with it’s box office rival, Jurassic Park, but sadly no one is celebrating Jack Slater’s movie milestone. No one that is, but the SequelQuest crew.

Join Adam, Jeff and Jeramy as they grab hold of Houdini’s magic ticket to bring you three possible Last Action Hero sequel ideas. Will we follow the further adventures of Danny Madigan and Jack Slater as they serve villains cinematic justice? Perhaps a spin-off adventure with Ian McKellan as Death wandering the streets of Tinsel Town is more your speed. Maybe Jack Slater needs to be taught that representation matters as a young woman rewrites the action movie genre.

The action packed fun is all here in our latest podcast as we bring you Last Action Hero 2 in the often imitated, never duplicated SequelQuest style.

You've heard us talk about our Outtakes and Stories podcasts on Patreon and now it's time for you to hear our first episode right here in the main TRN Podcast Channel feed! We have a really fun time recording The Retro Network Podcast each week, but as some of you podcasters might know, it's not always an easy process. Skype problems or distractions of living with a family seem to happen from time to time. We also have some great interaction between segments that we just don't have time to include with each episode.

So in our first bonus episode, you'll get to hear our problems, screw ups, and off-the-cuff stories that happen during our recording sessions. We hope you'll enjoy and will tell us what you think! So far we've released three of these behind-the-scenes episodes on Patreon so if you want more, click over and support us at the $2 level.

Is An ET Sequel Possible?!
(October 21st, 2016)

Can you believe it? It's been one year (2019 Note: Now 4 years!?) since we launched the SequelQuest podcast and we have a whole back catalog of audio memories to listen back to. Thanks for being there along the way.

What started as an excuse for friends to get together on a weekly basis and make each other laugh with movie sequel ideas has remained exactly that. Usually ridiculous, forever imaginative, that's the SequelQuest experience. Thanks to Jeff, Justin, Jeramy and Colton over on our SequelChat show for bringing their unique opinions to each episode. Here's to many more adventures in podcasting!

Speaking of adventure, this week we're pitching sequels to a beloved Steven Spielberg classic from 1982, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. This sci-fi fantasy starring Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore and Dee Wallace has brought wonder to generations of children for over 30 years, so we decided it was time to see what happened next.

Will Elliott and E.T. re-unite again to rekindle their galaxy spanning frriendship? Is this another whimsical journey or a dark, modern day re-imagining? Adam, Jeff, Jeramy and returning guest, Judy toss out some pretty wild ideas during this exciting podcast discussion. But whose idea will win out in the end? Listen now and find out!
